Founded by Karen "KK" Cherney, a visionary storyteller and community advocate, our work blends entertainment with empathy- spotlighting themes like Alzheimer's awareness, mental health, women's empowerment, and the beauty of human connection.

From originals like Memory Lane to upcoming literary and film projects,

KKBookfairy is where creativity meets cause.

Karen “KK” Cherney is an extraordinary educator, literacy champion, and beloved community figure whose impact has shaped generations of readers.

A founding educator at the continuously top-ranked Chets Creek Elementary in Duval County,

KK has served as Head Media Specialist since 1998, inspiring a culture where books, imagination, and relationships flourish.

In 2010, KK rose above educators nationwide to be named one of the top five recipients of the prestigious Alferd Williams Literacy Award,

honoring her tireless dedication to improving national literacy rates.

Her passion has also earned her accolades such as

Channel 12’s “Super Hero Librarian Award

and invitations to serve on influential leadership councils,

including the UNF Carpenter Library Dean’s Leadership Council

and the Scholastic Book Customer Advisory Board.

Chets Creek Elementary principal Susan T. Phillips describes her best:

KK understands the importance of relationships and seeks to know and love every child she serves. She is routinely sought out by students for celebrations, support, or a hug of reassurance. She doesn’t know the word ‘no’ and sees every obstacle to success as a mere challenge. I have never known an educator more passionate about creating a love of books in children. Her passion for the written word is contagious.

Among her most lasting contributions, KK and her leadership team established an after-school literacy program in Jacksonville, Florida in 2010, which continues to empower young learners to this day. Her influence extends far beyond the classroom, engaging authors, illustrators, business partners, and community leaders to create meaningful, transformative learning experiences.

KK holds a B.S. in Varying Exceptionalities (Nova Southeastern University, 1998) and a Master of Library and Information Science (Florida State University, 2001). She is a National Board Certified Teacher (2006–2016) and an active member of leading organizations, including the American Library Association, the American Association of School Librarians, the Duval County Reading Council, and the International Reading Association, where she has also served as a presenter.

With her boundless energy, visionary leadership, and unwavering passion for literacy,

Karen “KK” Cherney is more than an educator—she is a beacon of inspiration, proving that the right story at the right time can change a child’s life forever.
