Memory Lane
A New Musical
Memory Lane, an adult day care facility for Alzheimer’s patients, will soon be just a memory. Budget cuts forced the county to sell the property to a real estate developer who wants to turn it into upscale, high-rise condos and turn away the seniors who depend on their home away from home.
Enter Sunny, a rising high school senior, reluctantly working there as a summer intern; her boss, director DaVonda Jones; a couple of caregivers who take a second chance on love; and a cast of lovable seniors who help us remember that some things, like love, are impossible to forget.

When budget cuts threaten to close their beloved home, this unlikely family proves that while places may fade, some things—like love—are impossible to forget.

About the Play
Why It Matters
Alzheimer’s is more than a statistic—it touches families everywhere. Worldwide, 55 million people are living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, including more than 7 million Americans. Nearly 12 million caregivers in the U.S. provide unpaid support, representing billions of hours of devotion and sacrifice.
By blending art and advocacy, Memory Lane entertains while raising awareness of the realities faced by patients and caregivers alike. This musical is not only a celebration of memory and music but also a call to compassion for one of today’s most pressing global health challenges.
A History on Stage
Memory Lane first came to life at Essential Theatre in Atlanta, named Best New Play Incubator by Atlanta Magazine. In 2019, it was presented as the company’s first-ever reading of a musical, staged as a concert reading at the Fulton County West End Performing Arts Center.
The Inspiration
Playwright sisters Marilyn Baron and Sharon Goldman know Alzheimer’s personally. They cared for their mother, a singer who never forgot the words to her favorite songs despite her dementia. Their shared journey inspired Memory Lane—a tribute to their mother, to the music she loved, and to caregivers everywhere.
Sunny’s character was inspired by Sharon’s daughter, who volunteered at an adult day care facility for two summers and now serves veterans with dementia as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Geropsychology.
What’s Next?
The playwrights believe Memory Lane is a musical whose time has come. With Alzheimer’s rates rising alongside an aging population, the story carries profound relevance for audiences of all ages—especially caregivers and families whose lives are touched by dementia.
The goal is simple yet powerful: to find the right stage, the right partners, and the right audiences who will be as moved and inspired by Memory Lane as its creators.
✨ Memory Lane offers more than a night at the theatre. It’s an experience that entertains, educates, and inspires—
Leaving audiences with the reminder that love, above all, is impossible to forget.
